While Northfield shares a zip code with Winnetka (60093) it is, in fact, a separate village. It is known for its country like feel with winding lanes, large parcels of land, and sense of privacy. On Northfield's website, they bill themselves as the "comfortable corner of the North Shore."
Northfield is mostly located west of the Edens expressway with a small section of homes located on the east side near the forest preserves.
Settlers began populating Northfield in the mid-1800s and the village was incorporated in 1926. Many of these people were of German descent, raised families here, and became very involved in the growth of Northfield. The delightful history of the village told through the growth of its school can be found at the Northfield Historical Society's website: The Story of Sunset Ridge.
